Hi,

I am setting up a auto fish feeder to feed the fish. One of the issues I find with the feeder is that the flakes falls on the top of the water and doesn't sink down and hence most of them gets into the overflow and goes down to the sump. Does anyone know any tricks to get the flakes sink down a little?

Nope. If you run a controller, you can have the pumps turn off for a min, then dump food, then pumps back on, but aside from using sinking pellets, there will be no way to make flakes sink.

Or have the flakes dump in the sump chamber with the return pump so they get sucked through and out with the return...

Sinking pellets kind of work in my experience. Problem is if they do not hit the surface of the water with enough 'force' then then some will float. So if your auto-feeder is really close to the water then not all of them will have time to sink before they end up in the overflow.

Your best bet is the feeding ring, or to have a controller turn the pumps off. If you don't have a controller (or have an older one like I do) then you can always just coordinate a outlet timer with your feeder.

Ditto on feeding rings for pellets and flakes. I have 4 auto feeders on different tanks. Feeder rings is the way to go - don't have to worry about adjusting any pumps via controllers and synching those times with the feeders.
