I want to try to get a tiny ( 1/2 - 1 inch) blue tang for my biocube. I know that I shouldn't, but I really want to try. I understand that I would have to trade him with someone else, or upgrade when he gets too big for the tank. I also understand that the survival rate for blue tangs this small are low.Has anyone else tried this with a blue tang or any other tangs?

I have had 2 YT in my BC29. Did great. I also had a Scopas who also did great. Yes they need lots of swim space but mine just fought the Current from my Mp. Got fat and finally to big. I say do it and just Qt them for a while as they get ICK fast

I had one in my old 29 cube. It was in there for at least 5 months before i upgraded to a 55

IMO it is much better to buy livestock that would be suited to the tank you already have rather than to get something that you already know is not a good idea.

I agree with stacy, why buy knowing that in time it will need to be relocated? These are aniamals that we tend to fall in love with them so i wouldnt want to get attached and then have to sell him in order to keep em alive. Id just buy what is appropriate and enjoy :)

Peaches -

As long as you're aware that you'll need to eventually either get a larger tank or get rid of him you're fine. I've got a 1" yellow tang in my 29bc and he absolutely loves it. I've had him for about 4 months and he hasn't grown much at all.. so the timeframe you're looking at could be quite a while (a year or two).

Like a few others have said, make sure to have plenty of hiding spots for him. If he's small enough you should be fine. Jorge over at Pure Reef has a bunch of very small ones.. and some VERY tiny hole tangs. He'll be fine.
