Back glass

Putting together a new build and wanted to see how people were covering the back glass on their tanks?

I have painted mine in the past with spray paint, but wanted to see what other ways I could cover the back glass.

I brushed black enamel on mine...perhaps not as efficient but it came out nice.

Latex paint works fine, but tends to "crack" as it dries. By the time you touch them up and they stop reappearing, you could have painted it with Fusion and been done.

black or blue vinyl can be bought at any sign shop,put it on like window tint it will be there forever and will not crack or flake off like paint.Also if you decide to make a change it can be peeled off.Works great I do all my tanks this way.Not very expensive either,can be bought in 18 or 24" widths for a few dollars a ft.

I recently read of a guy laying toilet paper over the back and then carefully rolling or spraying on whatever color he chose. He said he was able to peel it off at his leisure too...

Thanks for all the help. I have always just spray painted the back, but I might look into the vinyl.

I want to try and keep my back glass clear of coraline algea this time and this easies way would be with a mag float, but I am sure that I would scrape the paint. I guess I could always just pick up a Kent long handled scraper.

There's a product called "Gallery Glass" by Plaid Industries which although I've never used it on an aquarium but only on my front door windows I don't see why it couldn't be used. The one I used goes on milky by dries clear but has a ripple effect when dried. You apply it using short little scribble strokes almost like you're coloring on a paper. It works great as a privacy covering for doors and windows. It dries in just a few hours. It comes in different colors so using something like blue may work well. After it dries it can be peeled off in a whole sheet if you want to change it. I got it at Michaels craft store and it runs about $5 for an 8oz bottle which would be more than enough for the back of an aquarium. It can be applied vertically which makes it easy to use. At that price it might be worth trying and as I say if you don't like it just peel it off.

I covered the rear of mine with black sign vinyl. My bro-in-law works for a local sign shop and designs, prints and wraps vehicles daily with this vinyl. He did mine at the "family" discount. It looks great! Love it.

I recommended the same thing to MrFlameAngel. He bought a piece and put it on his the other day and is happy with his as well.
