Well crap talk about bad luck this last week has been crappy.
1st last week my New Labouti wrasse decides he wants to get out and some how finds the little space that was open were my screen mesh lid was sitting a little off the track near the back corner of the tank and I didnt not find him in time. Then I added a new BRS 2 part doser a couple weeks back and I ran it with water to test it out and measured the water it dosed daily and felt good about it and then I get home today and about 16 oz. or 475ML was dosed last night. I just happen to look at the level of Alk in my holder and thought what the heck. I checked the Alk it was off the chart (RedSea) I noticed the timer I was using was a Stanley digital timer and it was on the blink so it looks like that was the cause. I did a 20% water change and added 3 gallons RO to get it down to 13dkh and I am checking every hour or so to monitor. I did drop my salinity, not by choice but I wanted the RO to try and dilute the Alk but now it looks like I am at 13dkh and 1.021 salinity I am going to give it a little time and work my salinity back up 1.025 over next 2 days
All the fish seem good and my cleaner shrimp are also doing good. Clam and dragon face pipefish also looking good so I hope I have done enough to keep my tank from crashing. This was a full SPS frag / growout tank
Sorry just had to vent a little Whewww:mad2:

Thanks, I am trying to slow down and use my head. I had a Knee jerk reaction and I have done what I can for now and I will give it a little time and try to change things back to norm as slow and safe as possible. :wow2:

Thankyou
I guess in this hobby its live and learn

Sucks to hear, esp. for your Labouti wrasse. Looks like you're on the right track as far as getting tank back in order. How are your corals faring?

Hey Rick , All corals are looking ok and all inverts also. This tank is almost all SPS probly 80-100 pieces plus a large clam but I must have caught it early but now I will wait and see. I have another 75 gallon reef tank that I can switch stuff over in but its all Zoa and mushrooms and I feel like the alk and ph in it stays a little lower and I don't want to keep going back and forth. I have been checking and so far its down to 12.8dkh and salinity is 1.021
Of course cleaning my PH probe I busted the glass tip so I will have a new one tomorrow but for now its looking near 8.5 with manual test kit , Since I have done a large water change I want to let it settle a little and see were I am tonight.

very true, however, if he had a 50 gallon bucket of saltwater ready...he could change out a couple of gallons each hour.........just saying.....

Hey Ralph I have about 30 gallons salinity mixed and 50 ro water I changed about 20% this am I think I will do another 5-10% tonight and keep a eye on alk and salinity
I left it earlier after the chg I was 1.021 salinity 12.8 dkh
Cal 380. PH 8.5 but lights had been on awhile

I don't see why you could not do a 20% change tonight since you let everything acclimate already!

good to go!

Hoping this all works out. Would hate see a gorgeous set up suffer. Especially when owned by a great guy. Good luck.

Thank you very much Rich,
So far after couple days it looks like all has settled back and only a few pieces RTN but I was really surprised. I thought after 475 ML of Alk would fry my tank but after a few water changes and dosing a little Mag and Cal to try and get the alk down it seems to be back on track and I am in the market for a Apex so I will not have to worry about this happening again.

That is certainly some good news. Sorry, but if there were any losses, it came just in time for the Frag Expo.
