Ballast heat

I have a 150w MH ballast that came with the biocube HQI...the ballast itself gets very hot...is this normal for a MH ballast to do...its my first experience other than with a sunpod which is encased so you cant tell.

I believe that those ballasts are magnetic. If so, then yes hot is normal.

FWIW- if the ballast feels like an empty metal box when picked up, then it's electronic. However, if it feels like your little brother stored his quarter collection in it, then it's magnetic and gets much hotter normaly.
