I have been thinking. Would it be ok or even economically sound to take the ballast of a 4 bulb fixture and replace them with Ice Cap ballast to produce more light?

The ballast new are $150 msrp but possibly could find them used for a lesser price.

Or would it be cheaper just to get a better light fixture with all the fixins?

Just curious and Thanks... and Merry Christmas!

You can add an Icecap 660 to 4~48" bulbs, and get about 80 watts per bulb. Its worth the money spent hands down. You will just have to wire them in.

Merry x-mas

This is for a 4 bulb 36" fixture over a 40b with mostly SPS and a few LPS and softies. I would like more light because i am getting nice corals that are turning green lol

my blue mille has started to become dominately green on its skeleton. this normal? plus i thought about retro-fitting two bulbs to the outside of the fixture and sealing it to have a 6 bulb fixture for more color options. 4 bulbs just doesnt seem to be enough
