For those who have successfully bred Banggai cardinalfish, what conditions did you use to encourage spawning, and how did you manage feeding and caring for the mouthbrooding male and the fry? Did you separate the brooding male into a nursery tank, and what first foods—enriched Artemia, rotifers, copepods—worked best for fry survival and growth? I’m considering pairing a captive-bred pair and would appreciate any advice, lessons learned, or pitfalls to avoid.

I have had sucess kind of. I went down the same path got 6 of them. Now I officially have 2 pairs one in top of tank and one in sump. Form my experience once they get to age they will start breeding. I just had both pairs spawn for the first time 2 weeks ago. As expected new young male ate the eggs after 4 days and the other one after 7days. They already show signs of spawning again. Hopefully I can get the first fry with in the next few month, the parents are still small and i expect them to keep eating the eggs. The mouthbrooding male will not eat for the entire time I will keep you updated with my success and failures
