I am going to have about 15-18 feet of head height from my sump in the base mentioned to the display above. Was wondering what go I should shoot for and if somebody recommends a brand that would be good to. The return line is 3/4 inch

You might have an issue with only having 3/4 inch pipe. A good pump that handles that height most likely will have a 1" outlet. I guess you could step it down? I would recommend a iwaki 100. But might get away with the 70 hd

Reeflo Trident works great for me. Has somewhere near the 30' mark and is adjustable.

Iwaki's are absolutely bulletproof. If it's right for your application I'd comfortable go with them. I don't remember exactly but from what I recall is there were two types manufactured. One from America and one from I want to say Japan. I also want to say the Japan versions were the better ones? Can't remember for sure though.

ReeFlo is American, strong and great warranty and customer service. The tridents are fairly new DC pumps so long term who knows. They did replace the problematic Blowholes and advertised as the solution to those problems. I have one and am happy but I only use it to push water change water to the tank from downstairs. Being adjustable is a plus but for the main return pump I'm not so sure it's at all needed.

I've rebuilt some Reeflo and Sequence pumps....easy to get parts for...great customer service from both companies. The pumps are nearly identical so you can exchange parts readily. They are silent for their size and have a great working history. Can't beat them for the price.

I have my sump room downstairs and 60gal reef DT upstairs and a 40gal frag tank in the sump room. I use a Blueline 100HD and I have it valved back while running my UV, chiller and ETS skimmer. Plenty of flow.

Iwaki MD are Japanese motor (better)
Iwaki WMD are American motors
Reeflo are Chinese pumps, not American. They used to be made in the USA until a few years ago.

Bummer, wonder if this change was responsible partly or fully in the Blowhole flop?

Blowhole flop was qc issues with chinese factory. They advertised one thing and shipped crap (business as usual in china). Before that was the blackfin pump: same story. Same reason hammerhead seals constantly fail. Titan is just a new name for the blowhole. May be from a different factory or the same with the issues resolved?

I have two MD-100s that I swap out yearly. These pumps simply do not stop and can handle the head pressure.

Holy Toledo, back from the Dead!!!! How the heck you been, Dave?

OP: to reiterate what Grouper said. Pan World/BlueLine pumps (same thing) are really good and dependable, IME, as well.

And as was said, Iwaki pumps are great. I got so tired of seals busting on my Reeflo Hammerhead Hybrid I replaced it with a Japanese Iwaki.

No doubt!

But then as soon as he emerged he ia gone with the wind... Honestly while I'm the midst of the last thread episode I was in earlier I was thinking how much I enjoyed bickering with grouper... and then he shows up. He must of smelled the chum in the water. Too bad the thing is shut down his emergence will have to come another day.
