A few basic coral questions from a newbie.

- What is the best way to detach a piece of coral if you want to move it? What do you need to do to ensure you don't damage it?

- What are the preferred ways/methods to attach coral to live rock? To base sand substrate?

- What care needs to be taken when moving/interacting with semi-aggressive or aggressive corals? Wear gloves? Use tongs? Suck it up and be a man?

- If starting with frags, how quickly/slowly do they typically grow (I realize there is a lot that goes in to this so you can assume just an average level of growth). Are there specific kinds that typically grow faster/slower?

Is there a good site that anyone can point me to that would explain this basic level of information?

Many thanks

1. Depends what kind of coral and what it's attached to. More info needed.

2. To live rock, glue/aquamend/glue sandwich, rubber bands, toothpicks, zip ties...all work. For sand, just set it on there and make sure the thing isn't blasted away in the flow.

3. Be a man, some members here have supposedly licked acans, though I've never seen it. If fragging, gloves or eyewear may be needed, depending on the type of coral.

4. Frags grow slower than colonies. Typically brown and/or cheap stuff will grow the fastest.

Plenty of info here, just need to ask the questions.

This was more of an informative question than one that I had an immediate application time.

I guess the obvious things that I would see are detaching from;
- Substrate
- Live Rock
- Frag disk

Well unfortunately there's too many different variables to go through depending on the coral, so when it's time, ask about a particular situation and I'm sure you'll get an informative answer.
