I was worried about needing that durso style open channel with the 1/4" tubing. I was worried that the falling trickle might be noisy. I think it works better like you said grouper so I revised the drawing below. I also raised the full siphon level so it will still keep some water in the overflow on shutdown. That way any fish in there will survive a power outage or gfci trip.

Actually I think it might be better the way you had it. Sorry I had it in my head backwards. The durso needs to be on the open trickle that way it becomes a full siphon if the the water level rises to the 1/4" tube.
