Being happy with your tank?

Either I am finding excuses or I am never satisfied with my personal tank. I always want to add another vortech or redo my aquascape. I go back and forth on what coral I want to dominate my tank. I buy and replace coral I don't like and end up buying it again the following month. My tank will have 4-8 powerhead depending on time( always trying to fix dead spots). I really want to sit back and enjoy the tank, but every time i spend a large amount of time by it I want to change it

I see people that are perfectly content, I need to find out how?

Not being able to afford to do all of the changes that you reference seems to help me be content with mine. LOL

I am collecting equipment,

I have multiple calcium reactors, skimmers and anything else - but the tank these are meant to be still isn't up.
I tinker with small stuff and quite often forget about the big picture...

I need some butt kicking to tear down a wall and move the tanks into place where they can permanently stay...

with 4-8 powerheads I don't see how you have deadspots!!! I'm kinda the same way and I think the problem is that we like the "build" stage of it and not so much the "sit back and enjoy" If you figure it out let me know

100% agree. I had more fun last year designing, buying equipment, and setting up my new 90g than I do sitting back now and watching it.

Even after a year of planning I am looking at my tank and can think of many changes that I would like to make. Calcium Reactor, switch out my RKE for an Apex, add a second MP10 to go with the 2 MP40s and 1 MP10 I currently have, etc.

I am also constantly guessing myself on what I should be dosing and should I switch out the products I am currently using.

I think that never being finished is what I love about this hobby.
I really enjoy the building and planning. I sit and enjoy too...but spend most of my energy rubbing my chin and saying "hmm...what if I did this...or that".

I don't think anyone is really finished.

+1 ^ I always could add new stuff. Change things around etc. But I found a way to keep myself content with stuff is to make changes slow. I mean really is a tank ever complete? No its just what you are happy with at the time. Everyone is always fragging or selling or adding new stuff.

Rob, you're hobby appears to be collecting equipment for reef tanks.

IMO, You guys should enact a "spending freeze" on the hobby a month or two in order to get things in perspective.

Thanh, along with the above, you , IMO, should also try to go a month with only putting your hand in the tank for general maintenance.

I've seen A LOT of people not necessarily into this hobby, as much as being into buying for this hobby.

It's your cash, do what you want, but know why you're spending it.

Thanh, I've seen a lot of people try to reach an unattainable level of perfection, and as a result, they never quite reach it...... A tough mistress to chase!

I am trying dakota, but it's not that easy. I become restless if I see other tanks.

Dakota hit it on the head. Like you, I am in the hobby of tinkering with my tank. I love to try new things and different things. Even if it's a new light setting, macro algaes, etc. It's not bad to never be satisfied so long as you're not seeking satisfaction for any longer than a fleeting moment.

However, I also realize that I can walk away from it and leave it sit "as is" for months at a time if I run out of time or money to tinker.

If you're not running out of time or money in tinkering, might I suggest adding guns to your hobby list?

I am sure I will feel much different as time goes by but.....I the little over 6 months that I have been doing this I have been pleased with how my tanked looked at all times. Even when it was just rock while cycling. LOL It helps that it sits above my TV so I am always looking up and enjoying it. Each time I add a new fish or a new coral it is like a whole new tank. LOL I guess that means I am like a duck who wakes up in a new world every day. But I like it.

Reefing and track days keep me busy.

If track days aren't eating up your money, you should really be racing.

I ran 7 years in CCS & ASRA without getting divorced, killing/seriously maiming myself, going bankrupt. I find that to be pretty successful! haha...

Never had time or money to have any interest in reefing until I quit racing.

If you spend some time looking around , tracking is relatively cheap. We get used tires for drift, and the time attacks don't cost much tire wise, only pad. I don't do it much cause the speed way only has cheap track days a few times a year. And this is more of friend vs friend than anything professional.
