I'd love to get an ATO for my 30g tank. The evap level is so low that I could literally go a week without topping off, but I'd rather keep everything consistent.

Any strong recommendations? I do have a full Apex system, so something that requires that would be fine.

I was looking at the Avast for a while, but there's so many cool ATO's coming out, it's hard to decide.

I'm still using JBJ even with my Apex. I have a breakout box and about 6 float switched I've been meaning to work something up with. I've also been looking at the Auto Aqua Smart ATO.

Like Ringo said, there's tons of new digital ones w/o float switches coming out now.

I just had the joy of both my primary and backup float switches failing. Thankfully I was home and don't have a large ATO reservoir.

I'm thinking about something other than mechanical float switches. The Auto Aqua unit is on my radar for now. It has failsafe's built in like if the unit runs 3 times longer than its normal run time it turns off the pump. Or if it's been 3 times longer than normal since it had to top off it emits an alarm.

Pretty sure the Apex can be programmed to simulate those failsafe's but would be nice to just plug something in and let it be. Little surprised that Neptune hasn't released an ATO module yet that would handle top offs with some failsafe's built in.

This, plus like you said you can program your pump to shut off before it overflows.
