I realize that many are a fan of ecotech radions and I know they are very customizable.... Just a bit out of my price range. I am considering switching to LEDs over my halides because the heat in the house from them is a bit excessive :)

Who is the top contender after ecotech? Maxspect razor? AI hydra? I'd love to hear from someone who has a couple of years under their belt with one of these light fixtures. How often/after how long do LEDs burn out? I'm on a learning curve

This is the maxspect I am considering:

Thanks for your advice and opinions!

Maxspect Razor's. Expensive but they are easy to operate you can keep anything you want and they produce no heat.

Thank you, I really appreciate the thoughtful advice! Keep those comments coming please :)

For the budget minded individual, the Reefbreeders kits looks pretty nice. Plus, they come with 2yr warranties. If an LED doesn't burn out in 2yrs, it probably won't for the next 15.

+1 on the maxspect razors. I say this because I've seen several tanks successfully keeping Corals from the start. Look at Gregorylenards tank. They also won a comparison contest over all the other LED's on the market. I can't give you my results from them, as my tank is so new to share the results. These are only my observations.

I did look at the reef breeders lights - the website was interesting to navigate.... It looks like you would need a few of them to light a 72 bow (48 inches long). I need to keep reading up on these. Of the two razors available, one is 10,000 k and the other is 16,000 k. Is one preferable over the other ?

I've only seen people buying the 16k (get the great blue that makes the corals pop) version.

check out Rapidled.com they have some pretty nice DIY kits that will save you a good bit if you have a controller already. more than likely the route i will be going on my upgrade :)

I've had Member Modified LED's, eShine Systems and now AI Sols and right now, I'm liking my AI Sols really well. I've got control and seem to be getting good growth and color from them. As good as my MH's produced.

I love my Sols. They are getting a bit old in the terms of different color LEDs in the fixture and I don't think you can change much on each puck but they're good. You can get them rather cheap.

What about the evergrow, like the it2040,it2060,it2080.They look like the RB,but have a better warranty.3 yrs.

Had the reefbreeders. Sold it. Bought the wife a kessil. A360n.

Edit: I'm pretty sure EG and RB are the same lights
Thats what i thought. If that is the case.It would be wise to get the 3yr warranty

one thing ive learned in the saltwater side of the hobby. if you are going to buy something, go big and get the best. otherwise you'll be upgrading shortly.
