Best LEDs

Mike, that's a really big question, with a ton of variables.

It's kind of like asking- 'money not being a factor, what the best car is'.

If you follow the research, anything capable of producing a PAR value above 300 will do... Until you find out about PUR (usable PAR ;)

If I remember correctly, a 210 is about 30 inches deep (?). It also depends on where you place the SPS (distance from lights).

I would encourage you to do as much research as possible. Then, after you have narrowed the choices to a few, try to see them all in person.

I can't begin to tell you how many have bought and sold lights because they 'didn't have the look I'm trying to achieve'.

I will summarize this way. There are at least two major areas of criteria when selecting lighting for a reef tank.
1) There's the technical aspect. Does it produce the PAR/PUR at the distance required for my corals to be able to thrive, etc.?
2) There's an aesthetic aspect. Does it produce the 'look' I prefer?

The above two must both be feasible, using your choice of LED. Otherwise YOU won't be happy, and that's THE most important criteria, no?

I know you are looking for others input to help you make a selection, but in my opinion, that's like asking someone to pick out a dish, eat it, then tell you how they like it. Then, you order it only to discover that you can't stand chitterlings! (I'm a southern boy)

This is from a guy that understands light, has done high level R&D and designed systems from micro watts to kilo watts.

I can't answer your question any better than this.

FWIW-
Almost exactly 40 years ago, I caught a small stingray (~8 inches) and had it swimming around in my 'salt water' aquarium (mini-reefs were just a dream back then).

Brandon, its really not a debate of mh/t5 vs led[im sure thats where your comment was going]because these guys[Mike and Joseph] know for a fact that high quality leds will grow and color the crap out of acros.

I can vouch for Reggie, whatever he is using is working. Just bought some nice SPS from him and they are easily the most colorful coral in my tank, hands down.

thanks Dale, great to hear!Mike and Joseph live by me so both have seen my corals up close and personal.we all trade quite frequently around here.
keep me updated on your frags Dale,i would love to see them in six months,im sure they will be stunners!

you can save some money by running led's in parallel. One driver for 2 strings, just need are resistor I think to make sure if one line drops out you don't overpower the 2nd.
You could also not add UV's as they tend to need their own separate drive due to some forward voltage incompatibility I'll never understand.

Reggie, is your DIY configuration something you'd be willing to share? I'm thinking I'm going to have to return my Panorama Pros because the LEDs keep dying, and I'm definitely thinking of going the DIY route.

As for Reggie's tank it is the bad azzzzzz you will ever see. Took my wife buy the see his tank and she said what ever it takes that's what she wants. As for the person great guy.

Thanks, man! Haven't seen your tank as Mike has, but I can definitely vouch for the last part of his post :)

here you go Shane, heres the thread where i posted the build.it doesnt go into much detail so if you have any questions just hit me up.
