I am wondering where you have found the best ORA corals for sale. It can be local or mail order but I want a good vendor with nice pieces.

When Tim had keen reef that was the place to go! I don't know many stores that sell the corals now. I feel as though they are working more or fish at the moment.

I have not confirmed this, but I heard the company changed ownership and they lost a lot of the aquacultured corals, but still have most of the maricultured ones. I know Creation had their corals at one point in time. I haven't been in a while, though.

Which ones are you looking for? There should be plenty of members with Ora corals.

I was told (so take it for what it's worth) that ORA had a policy of making a store buy a certain amount of fish with each order or they couldn't buy corals... IF that's true, it may be a hassle to get them. I still haven't found an ORA German Blue frag to replace the one I lost. :(

Live Aquaria has had the german blue frags, as well as other ORA coral frags. In fact a few weeks ago they had the German blue frags for $19.99 each.

I'll be in "in march"....finishing up my bryopsis battle...getting there....albeit slow!

(for the online order)

Heh funny, "gossip".... As far as I know, nothing has changed at ORA.

I can get their stuff - I just haven't for a while. Last order or two I got in, everybody drooled at the corals, and scoffed at the prices.

If there's enough interest, we could do a group buy...

the "best" place (from a consumer's standpoint) is from other hobbyists. Heres an example ...

That same frag or better can be had from SEVERAL ARC members for $25 or so (if that much).

That being said there is something to supporting local business. I would have NEVER gotten underway if not for Jenn's place

Barry, not anymore. They used to, because they wanted to support brick and mortars instead of online coral-only sellers. That policy went out the window a couple of years ago, like it has with just about every other supplier in the industry. They do have a minimum order, and they only sell to businesses.

That makes sense. It was some time ago that Tim (I think) told me that. He was complaining that he always needed more frags but only needed so many hundred clownfish. :)

Well they have more than clownfish... but yes, that was the reasoning behind that - even though Tim had a Brick and Mortar. They didn't advertise that the policy had gone away ;) I looked at the most recent list and it just states what the minimum order of "ORA Products" is. They do limit some of their specialty stuff - limit 1 per order, etc. occasionally and not everything they grow is available all of the time.

I wouldnt mind looking into an ORA ARC PB in the next couple months

Jenn,
I was told this by one of our sponsors. They didn't have any pearlberry on the list, did they? I heard all of their "nonmaricultured" corals browned out. This was about a year ago, though.

Edit: I would be in for a group buy, as well!

Well I don't know about the 'ownership' but the key people I know, are still there to the best of my knowledge, Dustin Dorton and Vince Rado.

I don't know about any livestock losses or issues since the hurricanes (Charlie, etc) several years ago. I know they lost a lot during that - even with an evacuation/contingency plan. So many hurricanes that year, that no place was safe :(
