Im debating between a yellow or Kole Tang for my 50 gallon frag tank. Obviously one of the smaller ones i can find but any other suggestions that i might be overlooking?

Yellow tangs get large and you won't be able to add any additional tangs (and others) due their aggression.

I've got a kole and he does well... def stays small. A tomini could be cool as well!

Out of all my tangs, the ones who work the most at munching on the algae growth are the Chevron, Achilles and the Tomini. The Kole was awesome too when I had one.

I don't like Tangs for frag tanks. Actually, I like the IDEA of Tangs in frag tanks, but they always end up agitating me more than anything. Not sure what you're planning to grow, but tangs are notorious for stealing any food I spot feed chalices/acans/LPS. Even if I wait for lights out, they wake up and get aggressive for the food source.

I know they are amazing for picking at algae, but I if you plan on spot feeding don't bother.

Agreed Ryan, but due to my idol in my display, def no acans, suns or any LPS period....so in this case it would be strcitly for algea control

What type of algae? Different tangs eat different types. And Zebrasomas and Ctaenochaetus sp. tangs will go after very different algaes.
