BIG alk. Problem

Pump is new so I know there shouldn't be any build up in there. I just did a WC during the weekend so I won't be doing another one until mid week this week. I have a lot of SPS in my tank so WC alone won't provide them with the supplements they need. It was just a mistake I made that lead to this. I'll just have to double check everything right now. My alk was going down slowly before and I was happy with it until Saturday night when I hooked up the dossier. Stupid mistake that may cost me. I'll check my tank when I get home tonight to see how things are doing.

Infantry! Follow me! :D

Just look at it as a learning experience. But I wouldnt put anything else in the tank until it stabilizes. I keep two small tanks of sps. The last time i checked, my parameters were around 3-3.5 alk meq/l, and my ca around 420. This is my nanocube.

Very nice setup you got there. I'll just keep on testing my water for the next few days to make sure my alk is going down.I may do a water change tonight. I'm not sure how much that would help.

Thanks. It's about three years old now. I don"t keep a large fish population either. I think if you quit the additives and slowly replace the water. Everything will stabilize. Give it some time though.

Yea I plan to do everything slowly, I stopped dosing alk. a week ago up until I mixed up the dosing pumps. I still dose cal. & mag.though. My SPS need it.

I don't have much of a fish population either. I think I have about 7 fish in there total. 2 of them or wrasse.

I think you'll be okay...

Go easy on the mag dosing though, and only do it as required. Magnesium isn't something that generally gets consumed enough to require daily dosing.

Copy that Jeff. My mag. is at 1200 right now so I'm just trying to get it up to 1300. After that I'll stop and see how much my system is really using and then I'll re-program my dossier to dose accordingly. I'm thinking about getting another test kit to cross reference with my elos just to be sure. I was at Rit on Saturday but he didn't have much dry goods in yet. He said he'll have more stuff in this coming weekend so I'll stop by again.

Just me but I never had success dosing anything. I did more harm than good. I just go by how my animals reproduce and how they look. If things look puny I will just replace some more water and that usually perks them up. I kind of follow the Mr Chin Eng? method if you remember him. I keep it very simple and cheap. I don't skimp on good salt and r/o water though.
