Bio pellet Advice

I also added Microbacter 7 later on in the process. I was never able to get ahead of the bad bacteria. It could have been due to my phosphates being higher. I am now back to a refugium and gfo, aka a more traditional way. We will see what happens.

FWIW...I started running the pellets in my tank(125 gal) about 3 weeks ago. I started with about 250ml, which was half the bag of 500ml that I bought. I have also been adding Microbactor 7 per the bottles instuctions(i've been adding this since the tank was set up, about a yr ago). I have not seen a measurable difference in anything yet, but my nitrates and phosphates were already very low. I had been running GFO in the reactor that I am now using for the bio-pellets.

I plan on adding the rest of the pellets in a week or so.

to clarify.. my setup uses the BRS Biopellets..

I'm not sure how the makeup or application of one "biopellet" system varies from another..

Pros:
- Like vodka dosing, this is carbon dosing. Provides more food for your beneficial bacteria and incidentally, your corals. Allows your good bacteria to build up and help reduce your nitrates and phosphates.
- Easier than vodka dosing... less work, lasts a long time

Cons:
- Not done properly, can lead to cyano growth
