Biocube protein skimmer

Has anyone here used one in an Aquapod 12g? Or have ever used one at all?

How'd you fit 5 extra gallons in the Aquapod?


On a tank that small, you should be able to get away with just changing the water regularly.

i meant 24 i currently have a 29 gallon tank and running the aqua pod as the sump i do a 5 gallon water change every week

Ive been doing water changes weekly and all corals and fish are doing great and Ive just been curious if a small skimmer would improve things even more. I do want something that will fit well into one of the filter chambers on the Aquapod and this skimmer fits great width wise, but as for where the light is in the hood, the skimmer is to tall.

id just keep doing water changes my skimmer does not really suck out much gunk figured id just use it rather then it collecting dust

Oh no no deff not a HOB for the 75, i was just saying Ive been looking into the octopus brand skimmers for it, hopefully something big, as much as can fit into the sump =]

if any problems with size of the skimmer fitting in the sunp occur, iit will be external, which sounds exciting.

I think that Tunze makes a skimmer that will fit the biocube compartment, dont they?

I havnt seen one yet but they most likely do make one, but as for having no room and going with an external skimmer was about a 75g tank.

I ended out getting the Biocube skimmer and the problem I have in the aquapod is that to position the skimmer at the water level it works at, the hood will not close, unlike in the biocube. So what i did is lowered the skimmer into the water to the point that the hood will close. And in this position the skimmer works with the hood open, but when you get it closed all the way the bubbles stop.

Any thoughts?

can you "gently" cut the hood so that the skimmer will extend above the top? (maybe even high enough so the collection cup can be cleaned out without removing the hood)

it fits the Tunze Biotope... but has an extremely small footprint

Sweet thanks for the pic and info, i cant cut the hood because right above the skimmer is the plastic cover for the lights and also the ballasts.

Now heres the funny part...the biocube skimmer is working fine now...and i cannot believe i didnt even notice this problem earlier on...the airline hose was being pinched when the hood was closed! =/ so the problem with it working only when the hood is opened is now Solved. =]

I don't know about the design of the skimmer, but if you're using airline, you could drill out the venturi a bit and use some rigid poly line (like RO/DI lines, costs about $2.50 for 20ft).

that is a great idea, however, the aquapod has a few small slots in the back for the power cords for the lights to go through and the airline fits right through one of those
