Hello all. Wondering if anyone can weigh in on what they think is happening with my birdsnest? Polyp extension and polyp color are fantastic, but it looks as if it has shedd off a bunch of brown skin and some patches of dark brown are still stuck in some spots of the coral on different branches. I'm fairly certain it's from a recent bleaching event (I got a new SB Reef Light and had never used LED boxes before). I am really confused about whether I should worry about it or not. The skeleton itself is very white but the polyps all over the coral seem to be in great shape (except for where the brown spots are). Anyone seen this before?

I tried to attach pictures, but it keeps telling me that the sizes exceed my quota.

Unfortunately, If you would like to post pictures you will need to upgrade to a paid membership.

In the mean time, It sounds like (without seeing pictures) the bleached portions of the coral is dead and algae accumulates over that area. I use a turkey blaster to blow off the algae and over time the tissue will grow back over the skeleton of the coral. I wouldn't be too concerned about it unless the entire coral starts slowly dying back (stn). If you see it receding you can cut the coral above where it is bleached and still has healthy tissue to try and save as much of the coral as possible. I hope this helps answer your question. :)
