Black Sun Coral..

I had one I picked up from Rit about 2 years ago. It did fine up till a tank crash from a power outage. I never target feed, just always feed the tank.

Just tried feeding mine but my blenny picked at it... Going to try again.

They kinda remind me of a cooler looking duncan. Fed mine but didn't notice any heads.

You have no idea how glad I am to hear that. Please don't think I was hating. I'm very excited about the BSC. I've never seen one. Glad to see yours are coming out. Do you think the ones AA is talking about is a differant type?? Since I've never had one I did a google search on " how to care for black sun coral" and that was what popped up. I'm on an iPad and do not know how to share the link or I would. It doesn't really matter if peeps are having success. I have mine under a ledge in low flow. I feed rods 1-2 times and reef chili 2-3 times a week.

No worries bud. I have seen black sun corals with dark green polyps before. Only variation I've seen besides black sun coral with yellow and orange polyps (very rare).

They should. Check on them tonight when the lights are off and see if they're out.

Not sure what species it was, but it has no common name I'm aware of. It was green and purple right? How about riddler favia!

The eye i got is only green that I can see , maybe it will purple up a bit in time.

I too have yet to see any polyp extension from the black sun coral but I think it will require time to settle in is all , I'm sure all the handling , shipping and cutting has them upset.
I was more worried about the effect all the extra heavy feeding will cause , if I find its causing water quality issues (i already have a high bioload ) I'll be looking for it a new home .

I haven't seen any sweepers or feeding tentacles from the chalice or favia either , but there colors are good and appear to be healing from the fresh cuts.

Everyone take pictures so we can do a before and after in 3-4 months.
Good luck with the frags.

Well they are non-photosynthetic so you can basically put it under some rocks or in a sand bed. I fed mine today and the mouths opened up really big but no feeding sweepers/tentacles came out.

I think your confusing the chalice with the sun coral. Chalices are photosynthetic, but you're right if it is bleaching I'd put it in some shade

Oh nope lol. I was talking about the sun coral...was I wrong lol. Can sun coral even bleach?

When they are unhealthy you can see the tissue get really thin and start to fall off as it dies. Sometimes if you revive one the polyps will be receded, but can still come back.

Wait so can sun coral even get bleached ? I mean they don't really need light soo?

In my post you quoted. I was referring to the chalice we got. I guess when I get back to my tank ill move it down

Not saying they bleach, just that they will wither away if not fed.
