Black Sun Coral..

So this is how I fed mine the first time. It did not show any tentacles but it's mouths did open a lot. Get a bottle and cut the bottom off. Then place the bottle over the coral and squirt just a little of mysis shrimp in the bottle. It should respond somehow. And I did have to move mine in the sAnd to do this.

Thats a drag , was it only the new pieces ?
I'll give you a piece down the rode , supposing they live and grow out for me.

It will loose a good bit of its color and start showing bone.
The black color is in the tissue so as it starves dies etc.. you will know it.

Ok so im good so far buy I still have abe yet to see any polyp extension
And my chalice is startimg to get color back

My BSC now has had polyp extension for 4-5 days after dark. I started with the reef chilli about the same time I got it. Tonight they came out when I fed the chilli. Normally I feed that stuff after lights out but I was lazy and put it in with the lights still on cause I was ready for bed, Within 5 mins it was feeding with the lights on.

The first time I fed it I did. I have this long feeding turkey baster looking thing that telescopes out. That was last Thursday night. Tonight, no it reacted to the reef chili in the water column with the lights still on. I just squirted the chili in at the top of the tank with the pumps off for about 20 mins.

Is that adequate nutrition just doseing the tank ?

I'm not exactly sure. Never had one. Chili & rodifers combo meal on the weekends after lights out . During the week tank dose every 2-3 days. I feed mysis every night.

I don't think mine made it, but thanks for the frag and the opportunity, to participate on making them. Very nice meeting everyone and had fun.

You probably want to spot feed it. Broadcast feeding won't be enough unless you're feeding a ton.

I think that the spotfeeding is only effective if the polyps are already out. Feeding the tank first should encourage them to come out

+1. I've kept a few over the years and i would always do a heavy whole tank feeding right after work, and then an hour or so later when the polpys were fully extended, spot feed them.

I do spot feed it on the weekends. How often do you need to spot feed?

I target feed mine everyday , but I might miss a day here and there.
at least 5 times a week.

Man that's a high maintanance coral. I go to bed during the week before lights go out. We will see how it goes. That thing isn't getting spot fed everyday in the wild, it gets to eat what floats by right?

the ocean is nutrient rich.

Daily is great but you can get away with less, I feed my dendro about 1-2 times heavily per week and it does fine.
