I recently bought a 180g from someone and it came with a blue line 70 pump. Does anyone have experience with this pump?

I do not have the tank up yet, but have the pump running for circulation for rock - it seems a little loud to me. Is that normal? If so, does anyone have a recommendation for a quieter pump for this tank size?

Blueline's are great pumps!

Maybe look at the new Eheim Compact+ 5000, they are pretty quiet.

I switched from the Blueline to Eheim for these reasons, by preference.

Noise
Reliability
Efficiency
Ease of use (adjustable)

Eheim Compact+ has them all covered.

What model do you have?

Edit: I have heard good about the Iwaki - I am thinking I will sell the blueline, mostly because my father's room is under the room where the sump will be. I think it will be too loud for there -

I will say that Bluelines are louder than Iwaki's, but both move plenty of water reliably. If I bought another one today it would be an iwaki though, with the japanese motor.

I've had a Blue Line 55 for about 5 years or more and it has worked just fine. Recently it has gotten a little louder so I am going to take it apart for a thorough cleaning. The Reeflo pumps are great at moving a lot of water quietly and at much less power consumption so I may go that route eventually as now my pump is in a separate room from the main display.
