Braindead?

Hi guys need some help here. I just noticed today that my brain liiks like it is bleaching or dying. It is about halfway up in the water column. I only add microvert and I use Oceanic salt, Since these supposedly have all the trace elements. My water parameters are perfect except nitrates are between 0 and 10. Can't figure it out I have never had 0 nitrate. It appears to be getting worse by the minute. You can almost see it changing color. Here are the likks to pics.

How long have you had the brain and have you moved it recently?

Mine does great on the sand bed.. What kinda lights you running?

I recently moved it down about 2 inches onto another rock because I had a fish that kept knocking it down. Going to epoxy it back to original spot provided it survives. I am using a nova extreme 2x24 T5

Isn't microvert that "filter feeder stuff" that is sold suspended in water?

Your brain may be starving. They don't need a lot of light but they do need to be fed every now and then.

My pink open brain was doing great until I stopped feeding the tank (the fish died in a crash).

The brain started receding and looking pretty unhappy until I put some flow pointing down right over it -- I saw that the flow was knocking copepods down into it's tentacles and it really loved that and started getting big and puffy over time.

The microvert may be too small for the brains -- they need small food (copepod sized) but they are not filter feeders. I would get some cyclop-eeze (it's a red bar of frozen copepods) -- it lasts forever and is a really great food. Just turn off the flow and target feed with cyclop-eze daily.

Feeding brains with chunks of scallop, etc, can work too if you cut the pieces small enough -- otherwise you will see the brain "upchuck" the pieces that were too big a few hours later so that the food doesn't spoil inside it.

I spot feed mine every now and then with some dt's..but its a closed maze brain

I would agree with Dawgdude and Soarin. I have had a couple of open and closed brains that have done what yours is doing and have somehow come back. Just hang in there and good luck.

Thanks guys. I have never spot fed. I moved it into the shade and it doesn't appear to be getting any worse. Hopefully will improve in a couple of days. BTW stopped by Creation Reef today. Met Matt. Really cool guy. Talked a lot w/me Going to be a nice store.
