I purchased a BRS dual reactor a few months back and seems to have less and less out put every week. I have cleaned sponges, pump and changed amounts of media used. Its down to a trickle now. Anyone have any experiences with this reactor?

Unfortunately, your experience seems to be the concensus among most of the reefers here. There are a few that have reported sustained success using the BRS dual reactors. I would try to search through the older threads for this topic and maybe reach out to those who reported success to see how they have it setup.

Good luck!

I don't have any personal experience with them, but the conventional wisdom is that the dual reactors tend to not work very well. I assume you are using GFO and Carbon. The two media tend to wear out and clog up at different rates, making it difficult to get consistent flow between the two.

I have two separate reactors and noticed my GFO yesterday wasn't tumbling as it needed to be so I upped the flow to it a bit.

You can split them fairly easily with a couple of fittings available at HD or Lowes.

Thanks for the feedback. Any recommendations on reactors with better success?

I was not happy with the preformance of the dual reactor when I owned one. Having a reactor is better than not having a reactor, but the dual sure is a PITA.

I switched to the sea system reactors that SEA sells. They work great. I just changed my carbon after running it for a month and a half, and the flow rate was the same as the first day I set them up.

I also run two separate reactors fed from a manifold which allows me to control the flow rates independently. I run carbon in a delux brs reactor and GFO in a TLF reactor. Has worked like a charm for almost a month so far. If you want to keep the reactor you have, I would suggest modifying it as sugggested above to make it two individual reactors.

I'd like to join this thread and ask, b/c I looked at the dual reactor too, whether the GFO is necessary if one doesn't have a heavy bio load/lots of SPS coral? If not, then is it advisable to run carbon alone on a regular basis and is there any reason not too?

I like the individual BRS reactors because they are so easy to change the media. Rather than go with the dual reactor, I just went ahead and bought two individual BRS reeactors and run my carbon and GFO that way.
