I purchased a brute can to mix saltwater. When I got home I washed it out with warm water only and later mixed saltwater. A few days later when I opened the lid I noticed smell of plastic chemical type smell so now I'm reluctant to use the water I've mixed... Is this normal? Anyone else have this smell? Anyone ever have any problems with brute cans?

What you can do, is put about a cup or two of your dry salt mix, or rock salt or table salt into the Brute, then wet it just enough to get it kinda clumpy, then use that as a scrubbing agent and scrub he insides of the brute down. After that you should be good to go. I've been doing that type cleaning for years with stuff I use to hold tank water, etc.

I usually just fill it with tap water and leave it outside for a day or two.

Ok ill try both thanks

Be carefull if you're using salinity by seachem it will heat up when mixed with small amounts of water and can get hot enough to burn if u get the mix just right

That's good to know. Thanks
