BTA Update

Thanks Dak for that info. I will try that in the coming weeks. Have to get out and get some food any way tomorrow.

Rick, I had a GBTA once for about 2 months and it just died.. so i didn't have one for the longest time.. I figured once everything got settled again and its been great.

Actually, funny story on the nem moving around.. i had it in a box inside the tank with the clowns and that was my way of getting them to host. I wake up one Friday morning and the nem is gone.. I'm thinking great, it died and wasted away... but no, it climbed over and out of the box and found a nice place in the tank.. the top of the box was out of the water by a 1/4" of an inch so if i had seen this, it would of been awesome to see that happening. Its only moved twice. Once out of the box and to where it is now. Its right under a Tunze 6025, i am keeping an eye on it though, we'll see.

hopefully after i get the vortech mp40, after i get some cash, it will find a nice place to sit and split lol

Well, get her one. I think if you start with a really healthy one, you'll be aight and not so much trouble with it moving around. I got mine slightly bleached so that was one of the reasons it moved a little more than some. If i get this thing to split in the next few months, my other pair of clown in another tank may like something to host, they are mated pair so it would be really cool then.

yeah i just got kirsten a very small clown to go with the big clown.
i have a HOB filter on the tank. for a few days the clown didnt look so good. he/she would hang out under the overflow on the HOB, on its side, up near the surface. looked like it was dying.
every so often the big clown would go check on the small one. they would play for a bit and then the little one would go back and do the same thing again. i got worried bad. then i noticed that under there was the only place in the tank he/she could see its reflection in the water.
i looked and in a way it looked like there was 2 clowns under the over flow. (reflection) then i remembered that the little clown lived in a tank with several little clowns at jenns.
im thinking it must miss the other clowns so it hangs out where it sees its reflection. it thinks theres another clown. weird or what?:D

aww poor thing. thats ok, he'll man up or whimp out and come out sooner or later.. i'd would just feed it enough to let it kno that i have food and it should come out a lot more. heck, gettin those pics of the clowns in the bta was harder than hell, finally figured out that i had to take them as soon as the lights came on cause they were still sleepy. i can't even move in my room with out them coming to the tank front.. lol its a good thing though

hes been out.
when i put him in the tank he dropped down about 8in then saw the other clown.
he B lined right over and they bumped noses a couple times and she took him around right away and showed him the new tank.
it was cool to watch. kinda funny too though.

first fish we have bought since we have been in this hobby 2 yrs ago.
the fish i have were given to us when the 27 was given to us.

Before building my overflow idea (which now I can't imagine having a tank without it, and will mod all future tanks likewise) I had a few ideas that I rejected, but close runners up as far as making tanks anemone proof. Here's some ideas to cover a powerhead.

Expensive.......

Black Acrylic, Weld-on

Cut and fit acrylic sheet to form a 3 sided rectangular box twice the size of the pump you'll be using, cap the top and bottom with black acrylic. You'll end up with what looks like a black plastic box, with no lid. Drill one hole on the lower end of the face of the box to stick the pump out-put through. On the opposite end if the box, drill many smaller holes on the top and 3 sides of the box. On the back (open side) attach a small strip of black acrylic pretty much anywhere, and use that strip to place magnets to secure to the side of the tank.

Cheap.......

Go to the dollar store, K-Mart, Wally World etc. and get a small colander (Pasta Strainer). Handle-less works best, but if it has a handle, just cut it off. Paint it black (or buy a black colander to begin with), drill a hole the size of your pump's out put (slightly smaller actually so it's held on to the pump via tension) alond with a notch in the side for the cord, and you have an anemone proof pump.

(As a side note, as ghetto as this sounds, I actually used this as a temporary fix a few years back, and ended up with it being semi-permanent because it looked great. I did a few more mods to mine, like very evenly cutting everything from the colander but the slotted portion, and then dyeing it black. Mine was big enough to hold two pumps which is all I needed for my set-up, and nothing ever went through the veggimatic, which is what this thread is about.)

^^^^They will, anytime they are disturbed.... Like;^^^^

-during a power outage
-change in light cycle (or over-all lighting in the case aging bulbs)
-change in flow direction
-when disturbed by encroaching urchin, starfish or aggressive crabs and shrimp
-temp changes
-during a split as the clone instinctively moves away from the parent animal

These are just a few, an in 20 years in this hobby, all have happened to me personally. Really, it might not happen immediately, but sooner or later, some anomaly will occur in the artificially created biosphere to make an anemone move.

But take your chances I suppose, you can always buy a new one......

Could be!

Perhaps you are the messiah we've all been waiting on!

With all that stated in the above post, it could inexplicably move tomorrow for no reason at all.

Anemones live a very, very long time, and to think they will always stay put because they always have isn't accurate.

But good luck!

bum bum buuuuuummmmmm lol

just got home from work and the nem is all deflated and junk lol i can see some green where its mouth sits and such but it bugs me that it would deflate while being at work... i'm trying to enjoy my tank sheesh, no respect lol picked up some krill and brine and some color enhancing flakes today after work. so we'll see how it goes in the next few weeks
