People emphasize to ensure you do not pop bubble algae in the tank while trying to remove, but, doesn't the algae bubble "pop" when an emerald crab is chowing down on it?

always heard this... but I've never HAD an outbreak after popping one...
and ya.. when a crab munches it.. they pop it.

I've got a small amount on a large rock in my tank. This is the third time I've seen it. I remove it by hand each time. However, I was thinking about just getting a Emerald Crab and letting him do the work.

BUT... I also have a 14" Snowflake Moray Eel in there. Will the eel eat the crab, or will he be safe?

That is just down right mean. LOL :yay::yay::yay::yay:

When I had some and had an emerald that ate it, it didin't appear that it popped the bubbles until it was in his mouth. But I could be wrong as usual. LOL

I have had maybe 6 or 7 little bubbles i. A year. I pop them! Never seen any outbreak. Guess its similar to anything else. Stay on top of it before its over taking your rock

Better to pop them trying to get them out than to leave them in there to pop on their own. I picked up a couple emeralds a couple months ago and they are hard workers. However they seem to spend the majority of their time diligently cleaning rock work that already looks clean to me.

LOL. I found the only one that went after Bubble Algae was the big one. But it was fun to watch. He would tug and tug. When it finally pop off the rock he would almost fall over backwards. LOL

thats been my experience too. ive had big ones and small ones and only the mature adults seem to go after the bubble algae. i think it may be because the small ones claws are not big enough to grab the algae.

Well the two I have got big real fast. I came home after 2 weeks being gone for Xmas and was like Whoa you got big. I saw one eating some bubble yesterday and then my anthia distracted him so he left it unfinished. I guess they are easily distracted. I hope they don't getpredacious as they get big. Don't want to lose my purple fire fish.

I don't think you have to worry about the fish. It will take home some time to get it all. But if you saw him go after it I think you are in fat city.

Hahaha, just saw this. I had another LONG day.

If anyone thinks that they can keep bubble algae tame, I have a challenge for you:

I have developed a super hybrid strain(bubble algae X bryopsis) that is indestructible. When you pop the bubbles, it releases acro eating flatworms, zoa eating nudis, and red bugs. ultra low nutrient water cannot defeat it. it loves vodka. The algae eats emerald crabs. It encrusts like invasive montis. I think I saw it push a small child off of the jungle gym, and steal and old lady's purse... This is some bad stuff!

Heath has seen the mess. It's un-real.

I have a small gold spot rabbit fish in QT at the moment. I am patiently waiting for him to "pass inspection". I've heard from numerous people that they will eat Bubble algae. We'll see...

I think you need to name a new strain. Call it "Stephen King BA". :D

I'm callin it Eagle Algae. Hard headed, stubborn, obnoxious, can't get it to go away- no matter how hard you try....
