bulkheads

I'm installing an external pump and using a 1" bulkhead. Do you recommend a threaded or slip?

I always use threaded bulkheads and then teflon paste on the fittings being installed into them so that when the need arises you can remove it all instead of having to cut.

I agree. Threaded works great. Just use a good paste on the threads.

Are you all talking about the tape or the PVC glue? Or is there another glue product specifically for threaded fittings?

I believe they are talking about Teflon tape and pipe dope on threaded fittings. When I used to do that stuff for a living we never used pipe dope on PVC. Teflon tape is sufficient. But glued slip fittings are much more reliable in my opinion.

Threaded bulkheads provide you the opportunity to adjust / change if necessary. In most cases if you glue them with PVC cement you will have to cut them out if you ever need to remove them. Just my experience. I glued them in probably 20 different tanks before i started using threaded bulkheads. It just makes it easier to make adjustments later. I used the blue gorilla Teflon thread paste from Lowes.

And you are entitled to your opinions and my opinion is I will never use the teflon tape as long as they make the paste as I have had too many threads leak when trying to use the tape.

And before you respond I also know how to use the tape correctly just think I can apply more paste and then wipe off the excess with a rag and done. :lol2:
