Well, Thanh, you get points for honesty ;)

I never understood the "first one on the block" mentality either. I'm too stingy.

Honesty is a side affect of being blunt :)

Thanks for the response but it really doesn't answer the question. Your impatience is why you pay more to have it NOW. Not that you have to answer but why do some people want it FIRST is what I asked.

Pretty much. I hate waiting to get anything. And I don't have a problem paying more. I can't speak for others tho.

Status. Not necessarily in Thanh's or any other case - but a lot of the mad rush for stuff is for bragging rights.

P.T. Barnum said, "People will buy anything that's one per customer." He was right. It all plays on psychology - much as the designer name, and "limited edition" stuff goes.

People have always snapped up the most aesthetically pleasing corals - after all, 95% of coral is brown. So if you have something that isn't brown (or green), it's different and as such, more desirable, and usually fetches a higher price. The designer craze in the last 5 or so years, has just amplified that, IMO.

Same answer:huh: . Anyway you did make a true statement that some will pay more to have it first. Many who do want it first will not admit that they do because of the perceived prestige of having it first.

You think too much into this. Its just a simple matter of " I want it now" syndrome. I mean the best answer to why you can get from me is " because I can"

For sale, limited edition 125 Gallon Tank, Stand and Canopy. Only one per customer. Get them while supplies last.

{Now maybe I can sell that tank and make a little extra while I am at it.}

Just add on that it was previously owned by both Steve Tyree and Jason Fox and was put together with LE silicone that promotes the growth of all rare LE corals..

Should sell in no time.

Actually I didn't have to think about it very much at all, maybe you should have . It was a simple question . If you want to dance around the already stated obvious, by all means carry on. You made a statement that some people want to be the first to have a rare coral, I then asked you why you thought that was. You responded with an irrelevant answer to my question. No need to answer now as I think you probably already did for the observant eye.

Edit: We all are very aware that you can.Trust me you have made that completely clear since your being here on the forums. I find it amusing !:)

The whole "Limited Edition" concept is not what is used to be any more. I don't think the name Tyree LE carries near the cachet it did several years ago. The reason Tyree's stuff was well respected and pricy was because he was the only one that did it for a long while. His stuff was truly limited because there was just not a lot of it around.

Every Tom, **** and Harry coral seller has their own LE Corals now, so the sheer numbers of LE names out there now devalues the entire concept. That, along with many resellers use of actinic lighting, color manipulation, and Macro pictures makes it hard to get any kind of true idea as to what you are buying.

Sellers like Jason Fox are really just mass marketers any more. You can buy Fox's corals from WWC, Pacific East, That Pet Place, and from Fox himself. Before he started connecting up with places like Pac. East, WWC, and That Pet Place, Jason was a guy with a lot of coral reef tanks in his basement. He prowled around and collected coals he liked from the hobbyist perspective. He is a business now more than a collector. His stuff was pretty limited, but not any more.

Personally, the name Jason Fox or Tyree attached to a coral just doesn't mean as much as it did, and attaches much less value to a coral today, because everyone is on the LE bandwagon.

Buy what you like.

Well. I am reefing on a very small budget. And if you like it and can just throw money away without looking around for a better deal more power to ya. Just don't brag most people wouldn't even know what you are talking about when it comes to names lol
