Your mandarin will eat brine, but it will have to be trained to do so. Just be aware that brine shrimp aren't the most healthy food available, so your mandarin will probably still suffer if that is all it's fed.
But, since you have a pod factory, no worries, right?

Also most companies don't put algae in their transport bag. Just a filter sponge and water to keep them wet.
