Does anybody use bulk calcium carbonate instead of using Lime water to dose your tanks?
I can buy this at several places in 77-80% pure formula.I wander if it will raise your PH like lime water?
Any chemists out there?

If I remember right without having to go look, my Bulk Reef Supply calcium is Cal. Carbonate.. Can't say it raises my pH that I have noticed.. Honestly I haven't paid attention if it has or not.. If you don't get an answer by later afternoon when I dose I'll keep an eye on the pH probe and tell ya..( I'm sure someone will chime in before then though)

Yes. Used in a calcium rector with CO2 to lower pH and help dissolve it.. Calcium Carbonate has low solubility in salt water (fresh too). This is why corals lay it down and don't fall apart.

OK I have a calcium reactor with the media in it as they all do,but I want to dose more calcium carbonate to bring the levels higher. It is my understanding that a calcium reactor is to just maintain your level in the tank, weather it is 350 or 500 ppm.

Someone else might give there ideas about this?
