First of all,

thanks to Barry, Ansley and Tim (Keen Reef) for always being available when I need them.

I made a minor, but very dumb decision today, to lower the effluent from my calcium reactor...

The result was a snowstorm, much better than any blizzard in the midwest.

Pics to follow - but I think some major waterchanges will take care of the after effects...

I like the idea but have seen to many crashes with using calcium reactors.

So, my 25gal water change is done, I also adjusted salinity slighty down (at 1.029 now).

Anything else I can do right now?

I mean, the corals look happy, the clam does and the nems too - not to forget the fish.
If everything looks like this tomorrow morning - I will book this under "nerve-wrecking experience", if not under "costly mistake"...

Are you not using a controller?

Tanks crash all the time without reactors. Doing anything wrong can cause a crash; I wouldn't deprive yourself from good equipment from fear of a tank crash. Just make sure you do it right! :)

He is, but IF I understood correctly, he adjusted the pH downward on the reactor (and controller obviously) and the alk spiked enough to precipitate calcium.
If I have it wrong someone please correct me, but that's what I took from the phone call.

True but there were over three hundred car crashes today in the metro area but I still aint walking. lol

Correct,

I was running pretty high calcium levels (knowingly) and today noticed that my pH in the 1st chamber creeped up to 6.9 (usually 6.7) - so I turned the effluent valve down, lowering the pH and (unfortunately) also raising the alkalinity = precipitation heaven...

Nice! I'm going to have to quote you the next time something like this comes up.
:lol2:

Robb, let me know if you need anything!! I'm just around the corner you know!!

My salinity was high,
I knew that.
Was actually already in the process of bringing it down.
