Can Anyone tell me what this is?

I just got a couple free fish from a person who was taking down their tank. They also had this piece of rock with this purple colored growth on it. Does anyone know what it is? should I keep it or get rid of it? Thanks

To the topic: Toward the lower part of the patch of whatever it is, it looks like round polyps/heads of something... almost mushroom-like. I'm thinking it is not coralline covered anything. Some kind of softie? Or are those not the same thing?
They DO look a little lighter, so maybe they're just neighbors.

Looks like shrooms to me.

Throw it out immediately in a bucket of salt water...set it outside your front door and lock the door ....leave the porch light on so I can see, however.

+2 on shrooms...mine look like that sometimes when they are a little angry.
