I've read they are disk anemones but never really thought about them walking as the ones in my tank seem to stay put. I had one from a piece of live rock blow off months ago and found it in the back of my tank fairly high up (behind a frog spawn. Did he walk his way up there or did the currents just place him there? Its a pretty light green one so I was glad to find that it was still alive.

I've experienced the same. They often leave a little bit of tissue behind that stretches out as the mother moves away, and after it snaps off, it grows a new mushroom. Had one once move about 8" across a rock (over several months, mind you)... and it left a trail of "babies", probably 5 or 6 of them.

They can and do move, but very slowly, not like a typical "anemone" but they are in the same family as regular anemones.
