Ive got small clumps of these popping up in about a dozen places on the rockwprk in my 180g mixed reef. They're about the size of a pencil eraser, some slightly larger. The extensions are completely brown. Majano anemones maybe?

Hmm... it’s a bit tricky to tell for sure from the photos, but they do look somewhat like small anemones or possibly a colonial organism of some kind. Majano is definitely one possibility to consider.

Have you tried gently shining a light on them after dark to see if they show any fluorescence? And have you noticed if they retract quickly when disturbed? Both can sometimes help narrow things down.

Since you’re seeing them pop up in several places, I’d keep an eye on whether they spread aggressively (which might lean toward pest anemones) or stay more static (which might suggest something less problematic). If you can get a closer or clearer photo, that might help.

You know at very first I thought it maybe looked like my pocilloporas, but didn't know they'd do that? And quite that quickly, assuming his original came from the last event?
Mine wasn't from the event. Was one of my first corals, from pure reef.

Does that really happen? I have a baseball sized one thats the same color at the top of my tank. Will all of them actually grow full sized over time?
Yup it's a thing pocillopora is known for! They can all eventually grow into complete colonies.

Tidal Gardens mentions pocillopora in his video on polyp bailout:
And he talks about the phenomenon in his old video on pocillopora too:

And here's someone ranting about pocillopora spreading all over his tank 😅

Oh man. That's exactly what it is! Thank you guys so much for the help. It was driving me crazy. Looks like I've got some serious work to do...

What's everyone's preferred method of getting rid of them?
