I have a large colony of blue candy cane and i fragged it recently. It has done awesome in my tank and all the frags have morphed from 3 head to six. I gave one frag to Ben and one to maple and one for myself. I hear the one i gave to ben is doing good and of course the one i kept is really taking off. Now to the story For some reason the one i gave to maple shriveld up and died, he also had a neon green frag from rostao he was keeping as well. Before mine died i visited maple and we discussed how bad the candy canes were doing. I convinced him to give me the neon frag to take to my tank to try and save it. Its been 4 days or so and i think its starting to turn around. All of maples other corals are doing great. So why would his tank like all the other corals he has but not this one? He runs 6 overdriven t 5s and i run 8 54 watt t-5s. Both of the frags have been kept on the frag racks we have and they are both near the surface. Could his lights be too strong?

he has alot of other corals including some other lps with no probs, he also stays on top of his water changes and uses salinity

Seems like in his tank the heads stay closed and then slowly lose color and deteriorate

too much flow could be it he runs 2 mp40s, I run a maxi 1200 and another modded with the sureflow and a korila nano for now, nothing could have stung it

plus the frag rack is near the top and didnt seem to be in the direct path of the vortechs. I dunno thanks for the info though

Shock to light? Did you have em down low and then he put them up high on his frag rack? Difference in Wattage between the two setups? I have a huge candy cane colony of about 60 heads. It gets way too much flow, but it just makes the heads on the side that gets too much flow look kinda weird.

I've had problems with mine when I gave them a combination of too much flow and too much light so I agree with the others. Have him put it lower, out of the flow and give that a try.

Blake, keep them in your tank until they start splitting. They like a low flow and low light tank it appears. Haha.

Ohh you got jokes today huh, I saw the feeders come out on one of the three heads on the neon today so i think I've saved at least one of the heads but the others are still colored up. Map we will give it another go in a few weeks

what i dont understand is the tank that the neons came from has vortechs and leds for lights,

No idea dude. I'm shocked too. My sps are doing great and really starting to grow. I would think if something were wrong with the tank, they would be the first to show signs of it. From my limited time watching the tank, the idol doesn't go near them. I'm stumped to be honest.

I moved a big piece in the new 135 that has no real lights and I have 3 new heads in 2 weeks, the new heads are white, really weird. Leave them in the dark
