Canopy Cooling Fans

I just bought two at Radio Shack... paid a little more for them but it would cost more to drive just for those.... still kicking myself for not picking them up @ Tim's last time I was there.

Fry's electronics has them as well....a whole wall of 12 volt and 110 volt.

here's my cooling fan, 6" clipon fan 2 speed $12, i remove the front grill and modify the bottom abit install with 3 screws, run 1 yr toss and replace, yes it might be a little redneck but it works

Thanks guys! Some really good ideas there. Hey...I'm already doing the "redneck" method and it's working...I just wanna clean up my act a little....LOL!!

The quietest fans I've come across can be found here: http://www.coolerguys.com/sff21.html">http://www.coolerguys.com/sff21.html</a>

At 8.7dBA, you'll have a hard time finding anything quieter. However, just realize they don't push that much air when they're that quiet - it's a tradeoff.

Those are pretty impressive. I've always like Yate Loon fans; good quality, good flow and quiet. Other than the 8.7dbA model, the Yates match up well against the Sony fans. One big difference: the Yates are a fraction of the price :)

Anyway, I just got lazy and ordered an azoo 4 fan fixture. It just came in today and it's HUGE. I didn't realize it was going to be so big. I bet it's going to be loud too

I have three 120v 3.5" fans cooling my canopy. It wasn't enough. I made an array of eight 140mm PC fans... each drawing about 50 cfm.

they've got fans for every application...
and the pricing is really good too...

Its a lot red neck coming from a yankee but I use the same thing lol

ok ok I take that back...at least mines in the sump :lol2:

Just an FYI... the voltage doesn't have any correlation to how loud a fan will be, but rather fan speed and components used- most of the noise you're hearing is the turbulence as the air moves over the fan blades. It's easier and cheaper to manufacture a fan to run slower on low voltage, so you'll probably find more 12v fans that are quieter, but it's because they're running slower.

Yep...3 things to look for when buying cooling fans (and this applies to computers too):

CFM: Cubic Feet per Minute - how much air it moves
RPM: Revolutions per Minute
db: the noise it makes - a direct result of the size of the fan and the RPM's.

I've got one fan on my server that is about 8 inches across. It moves a whole bunch of air and it's not noisy at all. But that's a whole lot bigger than your typical 120 mm fans.

The most innovative and simple design I have seen was on GrouperTherapy's hood.

Think inline duct fan with thermostat...seemed pretty simple and cheap. Plumb to a single 4-6" duct in your hood. I am assuming the actual duct fan could be in another room or behind the wall...no noise at all.

Grouper?

I am sure that some would say puller fan will lose vs pusher however it is a trade off of noise vs. cooling and simplicity in the hood itself. My vote goes with the grouper design...plan to implement on my TEK T5 set up..but this thing is so darn cool aready :)

I had that on mine. It didn't work at all. You need a very good inline fan for this to work as most are designed to push, not pull.

My fan is actualy in the attic mounted in the gable vent. You just need access to the attic or basement. That can be done much like a return vent for hvac. You can put a register (vent cover) in the wall behind your stand, block off the wall cavity on the top or bottom depending on which way you are going to vent. The wall cavity can serve as duct work. When you get to the attic or the basment drill a 4" hole for the flex duct and run it to where ever you mount the fan. Big fans and NO noise.

also saw these today...numbers are crazy but agian....pricey. especially when you want six. :(
