Just in case anyone considering dosing with carbon sources (ie-vodka, sugar or vinegar) didn't pick up on this, you will need to start at VERY low doses of the carbon source and GRADUALLY work up over 2-4 weeks. This is based on the reaction of your livestock and any changes in parameters. To jump into this whole hog is to invite disaster. The carbon will increase the load on your skimmer, which will gradually decrease as the residual NO3 and PO4 sources in your tank is metabolized by the bacteria being fed the carbon source. This will cause O2 levels to drop. Good skimming is REQUIRED for this to be successful. I am reposting the articles I have referred to again below for reference.

lol...my 8 y.o. daughter and I were piddling around and ran across it. Despite the obvious way he looks, she looks at me and said, "He looks happy". After a minute or two of talking to her, she never mentioned his looks. She saw beyond everything else to simply see how happy he is. I'm not at all to proud to say she taught me a little lesson without even knowing it. the world would be a much better place if we all saw it through a child's eyes.

Amen to that!

FWIW-My girls are now 15 & 20. The 15 year old is just losing her sanity and the 20 year old is just recovering hers -lol. Got to love 'em. Enjoy your time with her. In retrospect it will be fleeting moments, like the one you recalled, that you remember. They grow up so fast!
