Carpenter's Wrasse in overflow

My Wrasse has been missing for a few days now, so I decided to check the overflow chamber. I grabbed a mirror and think I saw it. I really think I need a better mirror for the job. Couldn't see real clearly with the one I was using.

Now what? Does anyone have suggestions on how to get it out (if it is indeed in there)? Anyone had the same experience?

I had to use a clear vinyl hose to siphon him out once.

Just be careful not to swallow him when creating a siphon with your mouth!

i had a similar problem with my canary blenny. but i would just let him be and i would find him in my sump. lol

I think the siphon is a bad idea. If you're using small tubing, the fish can get twisted and pretty beat up that way. Can you not just pull the overflow pipe, sending the fish to the sump? I like the floss idea, too.

I agree with ^!! I killed a filamented flasher doing a water change once. he swam up the hose when I wasn't looking and it beat him up and killed him... It was a bad day!

Thanks for the advice! I am going to see what I can do when I get home tonight. Maybe I'll be able to see better with the main light on. Taking the pipe off temporarily may be the route I go.

Well, after overflowing a bucket to end up with 1/2 inch of water in the stand, the stupid fish still wouldn't come out. I got my ladder out, removed the canopy completely, and tried to reach him at the bottom of the overflow chamber. (The overflow chamber is in the back of my pentagon shaped 90 gallon. It's 30 inches to the bottom!) It took some stretching, but I finally got the fish out!

That was a load of fun, let me tell ya! Thanks for the advice everyone. It was a tremendous help!

Yeah, I didn't want to hurt the fish, so I'm glad it worked. I've got something temporarily covering the overflow now, but I've got some landscaping plastic screen material that I've used over tanks in the past. I'm going to cut a piece to fit over the top tonight.
