Any links and info would be great. I think my purple tang may have cataracts. Can this happen?

More than likely its a fungus, bacterial or parasite causing this.

Look over this link and see if you can't identify the symptoms for identification.

The pupil of the eye on the inside has become cloudy. Are cataracts cause by fungas?

Not sure honestly, wish I could help! I'm hardly am expert on fish ailments. My best advice would be to contact JennM.

Absolutely beautiful fish! I hope you find the cure.

Check this out. I think it is bacterial and can be treated in a hospital tank.

Sorry, I must be missing something in the links.? I do not know what it is so I do not know what to treat with. HA and I can not see the yellow print. I need the treatment too...

I heard my name in vain... (again!)

Is it in one eye or both?

Could it be an air bubble? I've seen that happen. In fact I have a fish in the shop that has been in captivity for several years and it has a rather large bubble in its eye. Been like that as long as I can remember (came to me in June when its keeper passed away). It's harmless but a bit unsightly.

FWIW- you can get both via National Fish Pharm

If it is bacterial - Seachem makes Kanaplex (Kanamycin sulfate).

based on the initial pictures, it appears to be a fluke (parasite). Flukes can cause the eyes to cloud as you have described. There are several good ways to treat this whether its bacterial or parasitic. Creations reef carries several products by seachem and hikari which i have used in the past that worked well, and they should be able to advise you of the proper dosages as well. Good luck!

I don't think it's flukes. I agree that it's bacterial.

I don't think it's flukes either - too uniform.

How is the fish doing now?

Jenn

Sorry for not keeping up.

The fish seems well enough, and eating like a pig but the eyes are still a bit cloudy. I do have some Kanaplex but I have had it for about 2 years, think it is still good? What would be the best way to administer kanaplex, in the food or remove to qt and treat the tank?

There should be an expiration date on the bottom of the container of Kanaplex. If there isn't an expiration date, there will be a lot number, call 888-Seachem to find out if it's still good.

You can use Kanaplex with Focus as a binder, and treat the food - there should be directions for that on the label, and you can do that in the display without any ill effects.

If you plan to treat the water (not the food) then a quarantine/hospital tank would be a must.

Jenn

Thanks Jenn.
The date was covered by the price tag LOL 7/12 so it is still good. I'll get some focus this week. How long should I feed for? Just till I see improvement.
