Chapter 2: 50g Lowboy LPS

Thats your squammy.
Even the most colorful clams look like shit from the side. Luckily this tank is a lowboy so it makes them infinitely more attractive

Clams seem to be liking the led spotlight

Sadly my big Squammy from @civics14 died - the only thing I can think of is that I recently used Flatworm Exit to treat the tank. There was only a few flatworms that I saw and I did a water change both times after treating so I honestly don't know. I don't know if that was the cause. It had a good amount of new shell growth - so it seemed healthy...

The 2 maximas look ok but the derasa is a little iffy looking as well. Totally sucks...

that sucks. it probably has something to do with all that bad juju you been trying to push off on me

Nah, no more clams.
It did stop by Nemos to chit chat with Simon...and I picked up a copperband. This is try #3 for me.
It ate at the store and is nibbling at home so fingers crossed that it develops a taste for aptasia.

Did you happen to see the sargassum trigger they just got in? I was going g to call to see what size it is. It's such a long drive that I can't really swing over to check haha

not much - i'm 90% shut down at this point. too much life going on...i dont have the time or patience anymore to try to keep a thriving piece of the ocean in my house. i've finally come to terms with being beaten by a glass box full of salty water...god bless you all for keeping at it.
if anything, i may just keep a nem tank but even that prospect is looking slim right now.

i'm going back koi where my fish love me and i can use the sun for light and rain for water changes lol

Man, I know exactly how you feel and I'm honestly kind of in the same boat. I've transitioned all of my tanks to FOWLR because coral makes everything unnecessarily more difficult and expensive, it requires way more of my attention and prevents me from keeping the animals that I like!
I too have transitioned back to an old hobby, that being carnivorous plants. You water them, leave them alone and come back later to see the beautiful traps with no micro-dosing or testing required :D. Plus, I was able to buy more than one of every species I wanted for less than I paid for half of my fish. It's nutty how expensive this hobby is.

it finally dawned on me when i found out andrew sandler spends $50k/mo on his polo reef and with all his resources, still has issues.
its like why am i trying to fool myself into thinking this will work out long term

Holy Hades... He spends what some people make in a year, every MONTH, on that disaster of a system? What an absolute nightmare.
That's another thing about the hobby that's kind of turned me off, actually... It's very elitist. Even at club meetups, there can be a vibe of elitism that bothers me. You just have to be loaded to afford the supplements, equipment, replacements, etc. long term. I love this hobby, and I will always have aquariums, but I'm done with the coral. Gonna just keep the fish I have until they eventually die. Meanwhile I spend $20 one time on a plant that I don't have to supplement, buy $1K of lights for, or really spend any additional money on, and in a year I can make cuttings and get my money back.
