Chapter 3: 150g SCA Tank

This stage is the only time I run any kind of mechanical filtration / filter socks - even just letting it settle should be fine - should only take a day or 2.

Are you planning on mixing inside the tank?

Yes I don’t have any other way to mix it beyond using 5 gallon buckets

Yes we have lift off!
I put a durso standpipe in the overflow which makes the overflow silent but the sump is noisy

Tanks running. I dumped in 3 bags from the IO 200gal box. I’ll check the salinity tomorrow and try to tweak some of the plumbing
Dumping the salt in too quickly is not good. It'll tend to precipate alk out. Once everything has settled out test the alk. If its below 8dkh add some baking soda slowly to a high flow area.
When you add the bacteria it will plow through the alk. Check Bill's thread about needing some phosphate for cycling too.

Tanks cleared up and has been running for a few days. Salinity & temp are good.
I ended up taking the reverse durso off of the sump because it started to sound like a washing machine...

I'm going to transfer my two clowns from the IM40 into the 150g tonight

Clowns made it through the night are are currently hosting the overflow...they look so tiny in the big tank.
The female is a little bigger than my thumb and the male is about half that size

I remember when I first bought them - they were the size of my pinky nail.

So I think I've finalized the stocking list for this tank with my 3 purchases between yesterday and today.
I finally gave up hoping for a dip in price in the purple tang market and bought a small one.
I also picked up a China wrasse and magnificent fox today.

I already have a regular yellow fox but realized that I would have way too much yellow between the yellow tang, 2 yellow coris and the fins on the blonde naso and trigger.
So the regular fox will likely be kept in the frag tank.

As it is currently - the 150g will house

2 davinci clowns
2 yellow coris wrasses
1 china wrasse
1 melanuraus wrasse
1 yellow tang
1 purple tang
1 bonde naso tang
M/F bluethroat trigger pair
1 black cap basslet
1 purple firefish
1 coral beauty

So I'm still acclimating the fish....and I see little hammer polyps in the bag with the China wrasse? In fact, you can see one in the photo above.
Not too much info out there on these guys, but I thought they were reef safe...wrasses don't eat lps? That doesn't make any sense
