Greetings,
Title says it all. Whats the cheapest controller available that can send email alerts? I also want a ph probe but most come with this. Im finding that many dont do the email thing and this is important to me.

Thanks,
D

Apex JR ($150) does email alerts but no pH probe. You can add the PM1 module ($75 cheaper used) and a pH probe ($50-75)

IMO I would expend a few bucks more on a decent controller, rather than going for the cheapest option and then down the road see my money wasted on a poor decision, there is always something cheaper than other but with so many good options on the market and capable of almost anything you desire even miles away from your tank, options like water changes with just tapping on your screen mobil phone etc etc... all that said, by the time you see well worth investment on your hobby. Just my 2cents

The reef angel is the cheapest option I have found. It is open source and can do anything you program it to. You do need some knowledge of programming(uses C+), but with the wifi module you can check on and control anything from your smartphone.

just out of curiosity, why do you need pH monitoring with email alerts? Does your pH fluctuate that much? And monitoring without control (if thats the case) is rather futile.

panda, I guess I really dont need ph monitoring. I dont test enough, been doing it too long and stubborn. So I like the idea of just peeking at the ph and knowing things are stable.

BUT, in the end I dont need it. I just like the idea of knowing, while not at home, things are cool.

I will look into the reef angel, never heard of that before, and havent coded C++ in about 15 years so sounds fun...

If the reef angel is open source is there a place where you could go and download the code others have done. There must be one somewhere thats the fun of opensource.

Yes they have a forum on their website and a lot of their customer service is from other users. They also have a wizard now that helps with basic functions.

save a little longer and get the Apex, you spend more money buying junk and then you get the good stuff

My suggestion would be save a little and get either apex lite or apex jr (150-200$). Your only going to realize later and shoot yourself in the foot for not getting something expandable. Plus customer service and everything else about the apex's freaking rock!
