I was feeding the fish tonight and noticed a large worm (bristleworm maybe?) come sliding out of my rocks on the sand bed.....and it kept coming...and coming...and coming. I would guess he's about 12" long when fully extended:

I grabbed him with some long tweezers and pulled him out of the rock he was trying to hold onto. He ended up in my fuge where I think I will keep him until I do some research on what type of critter this is.

Here's a video for your entertainment:

Anybody know what it could be?

That is sweet. I had a friend pull a bristleworm that big out of his tank and bring it to school in a jar. Gross!

My guess is a fireworm. Might concider pulling him from the sump and disposing of it if you can 100% ID it.

Ansley and I just pulled the rock out of my wife's tank to catch LilRobb's devil wrasse. I have NEVER seen a worm in this tank, but we caught a 12" one out of her 30g cube. It's in my QT right now... anybody want it?

Mmmm tasty. Doesn't look like a harmful one to me - I'd leave him be and watch my fingers ;)

Love thy worms.

I've got one that size that I found in the tank.I through it in the overflow and it's been there for 4 months now eating the food that gets sucked in.
I belive these are the good one's,I just removed mine because I didn't want to get stuck by mistake.

thats just crazy looking. im suprised your tank had this.
i like your tank, its very clean and stocked very well.
the stand is super cool too. when i get the big one
set up, i will strive for your likeness indeed.

I pulled one out of my 14g biocube that was that long and looked the exact same. It road in one the piece of live rock I got from Mark (this one rock also hosted a gorrilla crab that I gave away to another member. Mark had a very thriving tank and was a very accomplished reefer to have that much macro-life thriving on one 2 pound rock!!!). I flushed him when he came out of the rock one night. My son never liked my tank quite as much after having seen that huge worm, as other than my anemone, it was the largest living thing in my biocube at the time.

when i see posts like this i often wonder if theres some guy out there that has a tank set up for hitchikers? you know somewhere there is.
i can imagine it, looks like a tank for of rock being cycled, then the lights go out and ya shine a flashlight in and it looks like creeping death.

OMG - that is huge. That would give me the heebee geebee's if it were in my tank. I am just waiting on the day that I run across something like that.

I inherited two of those in the rock from FlyingArmy. They will eat zoa's for sure. Watched them eat blood reds I got from Jin. Anyway I wouldn't Kill it with fire, but I wouldn't be exited about having them.

I would venture to say that no matter how clean your tank is or how good it looks, you have these in there somewhere.
I have 100's of them and they don't bother anything but fish pooo :yuk:
I only take out the big mothers!

I highly doubt this particular worm eats zoas. I have a tank full of zoas that have been growing enough over the last 2 years to warrant me selling at least a dozen frags of them each month (see my for sale threads). I think this guy is one of the "good worms," he just got fat in my tank over the years.

I'm going to keep him in the fuge for show & tell.
