My main two points of concern are this...I need it to be VERY quiet, as its going to be in my stand in the living room. and then also the jbj recommends 12" of room in front and in rear of chiller for air circulation and movement..
Are all chiller like this? that sucks cause I dont have that much room to spare for a chiller. or is this just the JBJ kind with the vents on both sides?

I've done a TON of reading on chillers. I also have the "right" chiller for my system and have found that it's not so right!

Firstly, ALL chillers will need the ventilation space. The chiller in the stand is not going to work. It will be counterproductive. When the chiller "removes" the heat from the water, it exhausts it out. If the chiller is under that stand, it will heat up the stand, thus heating the water. It's just not going to work well. Best case scenario, it will be extremely inefficient. Best bet is to locate it in another room; I'm sure we can figure out a way!

Secondly, the larger the chiller, the less time it will have to run (to a point). SO, even though a larger chiller uses more power while it is on, it will be on for a shorter amount of time, thus using less energy overall. The smaller chiller will run for a longer duration.

Third-buy a used one and save the cash! I have 2 units in my garage if you're interested.

btw, I am certified in refridgeration, so I know a little</em> about what I'm talking about :)
