Are there any chiller experts that can help me with a problem or give me suggestions. Buying a new chiller is not in the cards. I have 1/4hp Current Prime Chiller model number 2614. I noticed yesterday the compressor was coming on but the large fan was not and the compressor and refridgerant lines were extremely hot so I unplugged the unit. My guess is that the fan is the issue and would see if there were any input that it may be something else before I purchased a new fan. Also is there anyone that knows where I may be able to pick up one locally. I found one online for $50. Note: I have no clue how old this unit may be as I purchased used.

Thanks in advance
Nate

Did you check to see if there was voltage to the old fan. Some are low voltage and may be the transformer has gone bad

I didn't Dave and to be honest have know idea how to test that.

I am coming but it is hooked up to the tank I will see if I can get it unhooked by then....Blake are you coming up early to go to the meeting?

I suspect, as you've indicated, your fan has gone out. Is there a nameplate on the fan that would indicate the line voltage and the rpm (or cfm) of the fan? If there is, then you should be able to find a suitable replacement. In fact, I may have a used fan that would work. It's in my 1/10th HP chiller and is to large (in terms of cfm). Can you put up a pic of the fan area inside the chiller?

Hey Jeff I have a link to the replacement fan
if it helps.

I'll see if I can get a pic.

Thanks...that looks considerably different than mine. Mine is on a long shaft with plastic blades. Churns a lot of air...so much in fact that it makes my coil whistle.

Jeff does that sound like the problem to you. If the fan is not coming on and the radiator coils and compressor are getting super hot and over heating...a new fan should fix the problem more than likely?

I would say yes. What's happening is the warm water is heating up the coils. The fan, passing air through the coils, is to help dissipate that heat to open air. That's not happening in your case so the hot water just flows through. In fact, the coil/compressor could be adding heat to your water. Start with changing the fan out. The issue is whether or not it's a 110 vac fan or some other voltage. Without a name plate or owner's manuel, I can't tell you.

I will be bringing the chiller to the meeting so if someone wouldn't mind looking at it that would be great. Blake, Dave , or Jeff if any of you will be there.
