I have a complete re-design of my original refugium that I will share soon. I've been testing it for a couple months now and am super happy with it. Also have some miscellaneous parts like a replacement return line elbow/bulkhead and a replacement lid for the miniq skimmer that I like better than the original

Time for a long overdue update!

My original plan for this tank, which was to be a coral quarantine setup, has changed. I decided I want to keep my anemones separate from my corals, so this tank is now the permanent home of my clownfish pair and their anemones. I have a different system for coral QT.

In fact, it has been set up this way for well over a year now. In that time, my bubble tips have been splitting relentlessly and my rock flowers have been spawning. There are dozens of babies. Most of these offspring are still tiny, but a few have started growing and are about the size of a nickel now.

The bubble tips don't seem keen on populating the top surface of the rockwork. Perhaps the lighting is too high, but I need it to ensure that even the RFAs in the shade get enough light. I've started considering adding a high light coral to fill this area. Preferably something "expendable", in the sense that it wouldn't be tragic if the anemones do sting it one day, but also not too much of a weed like Xenia. I thought about taking some Monti Digitata from another tank, but then I would need to start dosing on this tank, which I would rather keep simple. Open to suggestions!

I’d love to buy a few baby RFA’s off you if possible. The sexy shrimp in my Nuvo 15 have made me decide it will just have RFA, bubble tips, and mushrooms in it.

I may be open to that in the future but I'd like the RFAs to fill up more of the bottom of the tank first! No idea how long that will take. So far their growth has been pretty slow.

Ok, here it is, the new and much improved refugium! I have been testing it for a few months and have seen explosive growth!

After months of testing I have completely re-designed the refugium. The new design sits lower in the rear compartment and no longer prevents clamping a light centered on the rear glass. It has a better fit overall and hooks onto the glass divider in the center of the AIO compartment rather than just sitting next to it, ensuring the fuge stays locked in the correct position and all water flow passes through it. The walls are now a bit thicker and stronger and it has a round bottom which does on excellent job of keeping the algae spinning (which keeps it clean). The spillway where water enters the refugium has been carefully shaped to create laminar flow for silent operation and maximum algae spin. Water exits through the right side of the refugium where there is now a slot to insert a sponge pad ~1 inch thick (REQUIRED). This keeps algae, debris, and microbubbles in. Use a coarse sponge for minimal maintenance. Previously, water exited through the bottom of the refugium, which allowed it to run dry if the water level in the return area dropped too low. The new design always retains some water which prevents your algae from accidentally drying up.

This version is not designed to work with any specific light at this time, meaning it is up to the user to decide what light to use and how to mount it. I now use a small, adjustable, clamp on spotlight pointed into the refugium, but may design a sleeker solution in the future. The spotlight is available from many different vendors, here is one example: https://www.amazon.com/Wonming-Aquarium-Indoor-Adjustable-White-Yellow/dp/B0D77X8DTB
