Cleaner shrimp spawned

I think my two cleaner shrimp did the dirty because I now have thousands of baby shrimps floating inside my tank. Didn't noticed it at first since all the lights are off but I saw my skimmer wasn't skimming then I looked at my tank and saw what looks like white dots all inside my tank. I put a flash light to it and notice they were baby shrimp. This is the first time I've ever seen anything like this. I tried getting a video but their too small to focus on. Thought I'd share this, I really hope some of them make it. I already have dozens of them in my sump.

sweet man you should catch a few and setup a small nursery tank for them and see if you can raise them to adulthood. i dont know if they would last in a normal tank cause fish might eat them especially if you have a wrasse in there

I checked this morning and don't see any floating around. Either their all dead or they were able to cling onto something and are crawling around in my tank. I removed my filter floss and turned off my skimmer in hopes some will make it into my external fuge and grow there. They were way too small for me to catch with the nets I had. I'll check again today if there's still any alive once my lights come on. Also, I do have a wrasse so I'm hoping he doesn't go to town with them since he eats like a pig.

Are you sure they weren't just little mysids that occur with all the pods and things?

If there was a "flurry" of them, it's possible that your cleaners spawned - usually you'll see the eggs under one of them, carried in their swimmerettes for a while before they are released.

Typically they just become food for something else - "circle of life" and all that. I don't know of anyone raising cleaners in captivity (I've heard of people raising peppermints, not sure what the big difference would be in rearing them...).

Chances are, whatever ones may have survived a feeding frenzy, won't live much past another frenzy. Sorry :(

If you have a pair of shrimp that are reproducing though, they'll probably do it regularly. They can switch too -one carries eggs this time, maybe the other the next time.

A friend of mine had a pair that did that, and when they were ready to release the young, one would climb up on top of a powerhead and release the young into the flow from the powerhead, disbursing them everywhere - fast. Major feeding frenzy when that would happen.

i would really love to get a jar with quite a few of them so I may be able to raise them in my refugium. How about it. I work right over off Marietta and Bolton rd.

Jenn, it was a snow(shrimp)storm of them last night. Kind of like micro bubbles from a skimmer gone crazy. I'm pretty sure it was the cleaner shrimp and I've notice one of my shrimp had a bigger underside then the other and it was also green (could it be the eggs?). Last night when I went down there to re-program by apex for the metal halide I noticed my skimmer was wasn't skimming right. That's when I saw all the little white dots all over my tank. When I said thousands, I really meant thousands of them. I notice one of my shrimp was at the front of the tank flapping it's little fluffers on it's belly. That would either be it releasing the babies or trying to eat it. LOL.

I'm not sure what could have caused whatever it may be to spawn, I'm thinking it would be the complete darkness as I no longer have the lunar cycle on my tank after taking down my LED's (only thing I miss about LED's). Either way it was pretty cool.

Railroadfish, wish I would give you some but I don't see any more of them. I've been working on the tank most of the day today mounting the metal halide ballast and the vortech battery back-up and haven't noticed any of them crawling around. I'll check my fuge tonight to see if there's any crawling around there when the lights come on. I'm really hoping some do survive but like Jenn said, it's not likely they will. I don't even know what they eat.
