I'm cleaning out my 210 before i set it back up. How much vinegar would you all use to let the tank soak for a day or 2. I put 2 gallons in and not sure if it was too much or to little. Thoughts?

You can't really use too much other then wasting money and the smell of vinegar will be stronger through your house/garage... not that vinegar is really expensive.

I usually use a gallon if I'm not in a hurry and the tank is going to sit anyways for multiple days. If you want want to speed it up... use more vinegar. Not all the salt-creep, coraline, and hard water stains will come off on their own. Sometimes after letting it soak in the vinegar for a couple of days you need to go in there and wipe off whats left with a scrubber pad. But at that point it should wipe off very easily.

2 gallons seemed like a lot until i thought about the ratio...... does water temp also matter? I plan on letting it soak until monday morning.

Warmer water will help break it down a bit faster. But I'm not sure if will be a "make-or-break" difference compared to just using cold or room temp water. But I guess if your going to use tap water anyway might as well be hot! =)

Be careful with the low temperatures (if you planning on cleaning the tank in the garage and is not climate controlled in there) have read horror histories from frozen temperatures and glass tank. Just come to my mind after you heard the advice of the smell and you might don't want to have that inside the house.

I used 2 gallons on my 120 when I cleaned it out sixish months ago. I let it sit for a couple hours and nearly everything came out with just a light scrub. I used water out of the garden hose too. You'll be fine with what you're already planning - just know the likelihood of you getting it 100% clean is kinda slim - you may get close, but some of the old coralline algae can be a real pain.

I can't imagine warm water will matter as the main point is to let everything soak and the water isn't going to stay warm :)

So all the coraline and algae came out but the tank glass is still cloudy. I looked around on internet and tried polishing using cerium oxide and that did nothing as well. It seems like it's actually inside the glass. Any ideas on how to get rid of it? First tried razor, then tried soak in vinegar, then tried polishing glass with cerium oxide using an electric polishing drill and pad(sp?).

Is the glass etched or scratched? That is what it sounds like, if descaling it didn't work.

No, it's all inside the glass.... nothing I've done on either side of the glass has shown any improvement. Both side are smooth to the touch. The guy who details my car used a bunch of equipment he uses on windshields with no luck either.... Whatever it is, is inside the glass. I'll try to get some pictures tomorrow.

Tanks I have cleaned seem to always have that cloudy look until water is added. Try fill it a bit and I bet it will look crystal clear.

Was like this when was full. Got a new system and have tried cleaning and soaking etc filled and empty since I broke it down and nothing....

Its sounds like you have investigated this phenom extensively, so I apologize for this question but I feel I must ask it since no one else did.

Are you sure it not acrylic instead of glass?

Haha yes it's an all glass 210.... thanks

I've already been made whole by the manufacturer, but I wanted to try and fix it if I could. Great customer service if you ever have any issues. It's being set up in my basement anyway so it's not a huge deal, but now that it's empty I finally have the opportunity to fix it before I set it back up to add more water volume and some awesome fish I can't put in my reef.

7 Gallons of what??

See Pictures..... With Water it's not as bad but you can see where my mp 60 was doesn't have the etching. I'm in buckhead if anyone wants to come take a look.
